Heewon Park, PhD

Associate Professor

My laboratory's research focuses on studying various aspects of important cellular enzymes and proteins in both normal and pathological conditions, utilizing a combination of crystallographic, biochemical, biophysical, and cellular techniques. With a background in molecular biophysics and crystallography, obtained through doctoral training at UT Southwestern Medical Center and postdoctoral work at Duke University, I gained expertise in structural biology. My experience at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Structural Genomics Consortium, Canada, further enhanced my skills in determining protein structures and designing inhibitors for drug development. Since 2012, my laboratory has been located at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Tulane School of Medicine, where I continue to conduct structural biology and drug discovery research, including the development of a simple and cost-effective assay for compound screening, which builds upon our ongoing crystallographic drug discovery projects.
