Transcriptomics and genomic reorganization during Epstein Barr virus replication and oncogenesis

The Epstein Barr virus (EBV) is a human tumor virus that is a causal agent of some B-cell lymphomas including Burkitt’s lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and Hodgkin’s lymphoma as well as about 10% of stomach cancers. In immunocompromised individuals, EBV associated lymphomas are especially problematic. Our lab investigates the roles of virus latency associated long and short viral non-coding RNAs in contributing to the tumor phenotype through causing global alterations in microRNA function and through eliciting of epigenetic reprogramming. In addition, we study virus-host interactions during the virus replication cycle that lead to extensive remodeling of cell chromatin, the cell epigenome, cell transcription initiation, and splicing disruption in support virus replication and spread within and between hosts.
