The Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC) is currently seeking a part-time Research Lab Technician who will assist in the day-to-day operation of a Biospecimen/Biorepository Core Lab (BCL) in support of promising cancer research and clinical research studies. This position would be 25 - 30 hours per week.

LCRC is a consortium partnership which includes LSU Health in New Orleans, Tulane School of Medicine, Xavier University, and Ochsner Health 

Specific responsibilities may include any or all of the following:

• Travel to nearby local core laboratories for sample drop-off/pick-up

• Perform QA/QC on equipment (freezers, Liquid nitrogen dewars, and microtome) according to established protocols (SOPs)

• Perform QA/QC periodically, on banked samples (plasma, serum, PBMCs and paraffin embedded tissues) according to established protocols (SOPs)

• Complete paperwork and/or data entry associated with each specimen

• Process specimen requests and documentation

• Contribute to the consolidation of inventory and population of electronic database (BTM)

• Prepare histological cutting and staining of banked tissues to be assessed by a pathologist

• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of biospecimen data by meticulously entering and verifying  information in designated databases

• Work closely with the core manager to facilitate data entry, equipment handling, and specimen  release

• Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, Basic Sciences or related degree

• Ability to work in a flexible work schedule environment

• Current driver's license required

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills

• Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with laboratory sample inventory and electronic databases

• Basic knowledge or experience using an Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR) database

• Experience within tissue culture, sterile techniques or basic Molecular Biology

• Knowledge of HIPPA, IRB, OSHA, and/or PHI policies/regulations

• Experience in a medical research and/or healthcare environment
